Direct Sourcing Hard Items ManagerThe Challenge
Hilti is a multinational company that makes construction tools. They have all kinds of complicated structures and shapes. They wanted VANTASTEK to recommend different options of promotional gifts that could best represent their brand image. Printing a logo on a bag or cup or USB or powerbank is not good enough. The idea is that the gift should look exactly like the tool itself, in the shape of some toys. First, Hilti wanted to make a mini-version keyring of the tool by ABS or Metal. But the molding cost for their quantity is too high for a give-away project. After thorough discussion, our engineers suggested that USB flash drive in the shape of the tool by PVC molding is the best choice in terms of cost, similarity, usefulness, and brand image. Client was happy with this idea and gave us a go for the next step.
The Process
First, we created a 3D design that mimics the shape of the tool.
Then, we made several samples by man-hand without starting the mold. They were not perfect, but they would give client a basic idea of what the final product would look like. The details would be refined in mass production.
The Result
We made several rounds of improvements according to client’s demand. Then, finally, the third sample was confirmed and mass production of the first 10000 pieces was launched immediately.
